My glass art process:

My glass art process:

This starts off with a drawing of the emblem, in reverse, onto paper. This is then attached to a scraped, sanded and cleaned piece of 3mm float glass, after which the emblem is painted onto the glass back to front.

The gilding is then added to the second piece of glass. This is performed using a centuries old technique of water gilding, which is performed by adding pure alcohol and gelatine to deionised water, in prescribed quantities, and painted onto the glass.

The gold leaf is cut into manageable rectangles and placed onto the glass. When this has dried and any gaps are filled with additional gold, the whole of the gold is painted over (backed up) with black paint.

Both of the pieces are now ready to be placed into the frame, separated by a spacer frame to add depth, and there you have it, a gilded automotive emblem.
